We want Budget Dashboard to work for everyone, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, screen magnification or high-contrast settings. Our goal is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We have not had the site audited by an outside party, so we do not claim that it fully meets them.
What we have done
- The app can be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus.
- Pages have headings and landmarks, windows keep the focus inside them, and messages are announced.
- Negative amounts are read with the word "minus", and transaction dates are read in full.
- Each chart has a table with the same numbers under "View as table".
- Text follows your browser's font size, and pages work at 400% zoom and on small screens.
- The site follows your device's dark mode, reduced motion and contrast settings.
- Deleted transactions, goals and recurring items can be restored with Undo.
Keyboard shortcuts
In the app, press ? to see the list of shortcuts. You can turn the single-key shortcuts off under Settings.
How we test
Automated tests check the site's pages and windows in light and dark themes, on desktop and phone sizes, and check keyboard use, focus and zoom. Automated tests cannot tell how the site sounds, so we also keep a written checklist for manual screen-reader testing.
Known limitations
- The chart slices themselves can only be clicked with a mouse or touch. The legend next to each chart does the same job and works with a keyboard.
- Reports saved as PDF have not been tested with screen readers.
- French and Portuguese screen-reader wording is newer and less tested than English.
- Sign-in with Google, Microsoft or Apple uses their own pages and buttons, which we do not control.
