Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
- Budget Dashboard has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies.
- The transactions, budgets and other information you enter or import stay in your own browser. We do not receive them and cannot see them.
- If you choose to turn on sync, a copy is kept in a private, hidden folder in your own Google Drive. We still do not receive it.
1. Who we are
Budget Dashboard ("we", "us") is a free budgeting website at personalbudget.ca. You can reach us at [email protected].
2. Information kept on your device
When you use the app, it stores the following in your browser's local storage, on your own device:
- the transactions you import or add (account name, date, description, amount and category);
- your budgets, savings goals, categorisation rules and remembered category choices;
- a list of transactions you deleted or split, so that importing the same file again does not bring them back;
- your settings (language, theme, country and currency), and an unfinished import, if you leave one.
This information is not sent to us. You can export a backup file, restore one, or erase everything at any time in Settings (“Clear all saved data”), or by clearing this site's data in your browser. If you clear your browser data and have neither a backup nor sync, the data is gone and we cannot recover it.
The data is not encrypted inside the browser. Anyone who can use your device and your browser profile may be able to see it, so please protect your device with a lock screen or password.
3. Google Drive sync (optional)
Sync is off unless you press “Connect Google Drive” in Settings. When you do:
- Your browser loads Google's sign-in service from Google and asks you for permission to use the “Drive app data” access (
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata). - This permission lets the app create, read, update and delete only its own hidden file in the app-data folder of your Google Drive. It does not let the app see or change any of your other files, and we do not ask for your name, email address or contacts.
- The file holds the same information as a backup (see section 2) so that your devices can stay up to date with each other.
- The data travels directly between your browser and Google. It never passes through our servers. Google handles it under Google's Privacy Policy.
- The access token Google gives your browser is kept in the browser's memory only and is not saved.
Stopping sync. Press “Disconnect” in Settings. You can also choose to delete the copy in your Google Drive at the same time. You can remove the app's access at any time in your Google Account under third-party app access (myaccount.google.com/permissions).
Google API Services User Data Policy. Budget Dashboard's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use the Drive permission only to provide the sync feature you asked for. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and no person at Budget Dashboard can read it.
4. The contact form
If you write to us through the Contact page, you give us your email address, your message, and optionally your name. If you tick the box, you also give us technical details (browser, language, theme and window size) to help us fix problems. We use this only to reply to you and to handle your question or problem. The message is delivered to us by email, either from your own email app or through a form-delivery service that forwards it to us. We keep messages for as long as needed to deal with them, and you can ask us to delete yours.
5. What we do not do
We do not sell or rent information, show advertising, build profiles, or run analytics or tracking tools in the app. We do not have your budget data, so there is nothing for us to sell or share.
6. Cookies and local storage
We do not use cookies. We use your browser's local storage only to make the app work, as described in section 2. If you connect Google Drive, Google's sign-in service may use its own cookies, under Google's policies.
7. Other services
- Hosting. Like any website, the company that hosts our pages may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, date and the page requested) to run and secure the service. We do not use them to identify you.
- Donations. If a “Donate” link is available, it takes you to a payment service that has its own privacy policy. We do not receive your card details.
8. Children
Budget Dashboard is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. Your choices and rights
Because your budget data stays on your device (and in your own Google Drive if you turn on sync), you already control it: export, restore or delete it in Settings. We cannot look it up, export it or delete it for you. For anything we do hold, such as a message you sent us, you can ask to see it, correct it or delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under privacy laws such as Canada's PIPEDA or the EU/UK GDPR. Write to us at [email protected] and we will help.
10. Where data is stored
Your data stays on your devices and, if you use sync, in your Google Drive, which Google may store in data centres in several countries.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for important changes, mention it on the site.
