Terms of Service

1. Agreement

By using Budget Dashboard at personalbudget.ca (the “Service”) you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, or use the Service with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

2. The Service

Budget Dashboard lets you import or enter bank transactions, sort them into categories, set budgets and savings goals, and review your spending. It runs in your web browser, and your data is stored on your device unless you choose to turn on Google Drive sync. We may add, change or remove features at any time.

3. Not financial advice

The Service is for information and personal organisation only. It is not financial, tax, legal or accounting advice. Figures such as suggested budgets, savings amounts, recurring bills and goal progress are estimates based on the data you provide and may be wrong. Always check them against your bank statements, and consult a qualified professional for advice about your situation.

4. Your data and your responsibility

• You own your data. We do not receive it, and we claim no rights to it.
• You are responsible for the accuracy of what you import or enter. Bank file layouts differ and the importer does its best, so please check the preview before importing.
• Because data is kept in your browser, clearing browser data, changing device or a browser problem can erase it. Sync is a convenience, not a guaranteed backup. Please export a backup from Settings regularly. We cannot recover lost data.
• You are responsible for keeping your devices and your Google account secure.

5. Google Drive sync

Sync needs a Google account, and your use of Google's services is governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy. The Service uses only the limited “app data” access described in our Privacy Policy. Google may change or limit its services, which can affect sync.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the Service to break the law or to infringe anyone's rights;
• interfere with or disrupt the Service, try to gain unauthorised access to it, or use automated means to overload it;
• send spam, abuse or unlawful content through the Contact page;
• import financial data that you have no right to use (the Service is meant for your own accounts, or accounts you are authorised to manage).

7. Third-party names

Names of banks and other companies, such as RBC, are used only to describe the file formats the importer can read. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any bank or company named. All trademarks belong to their owners.

8. Donations

If a “Donate” link is available, donations are voluntary. They do not buy features, special support or any other benefit, and they are processed by a third-party payment service under its own terms. Donations are generally non-refundable, except where the law or that service's policy requires otherwise.

9. Our rights

The website, its design, text and code belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for your own use. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them to improve the Service without obligation to you.

10. Availability and changes

The Service is provided on an “as available” basis. It may be interrupted, changed or discontinued at any time. If we plan to discontinue it, we will try to give notice so that you can export your data.

11. No warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or savings, or for decisions you make using the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to CAD $100. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, or any consumer rights that you cannot waive.

13. Ending your use

You may stop using the Service at any time, and you can erase your data in Settings. We may suspend or block access to the Service if you break these terms or to protect the Service or other people.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using the Service after a change, you accept the updated terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Manitoba and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be decided by the courts of Manitoba, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
